Costa Brava
This beautiful and rocky coast begins at the border with France to the town of” Blanes”. The “Costa Brava” has an unusual beauty. The coast is wild and rugged. It has 80 nautical miles, 26 ports and 100 places to anchor. They are very deeper moorings and it takes a lot out of anchor chain. It is usually a calm sea. It has many places of great beauty, but you must be careful when the wind north blow, which can be fierce and the further north, the stronger will blow. The ends of “Sant Sebastia”, “Begur” and “Creus” act as natural barriers.
PORT BOU

“Port Bou” is located between a cluster of high hills and the entrance is difficult to locate.
It has high cliffs that protect it from the mountain. The bottom is rocky with abundant algae and vegetation. You can anchor in the middle of “Galbert” The bottom is sandy and it has some loose rock.
PORT BOU COVE
“Port Bou” is in the South out “Falco.”This cove is very deep in very few meters from the beach, where you can anchor perfectly. Although it is protected from Nord winds, the sea comes in and causes undertow, can therefore serve as a pier and cove shelter in case of absolute necessity.
In its Southeast side, there is a platform about 50 m.
PORT COLERA

The “Colera Marina” is well protected and it is suitable for little draft boats. You can anchor in the island North.
COLERA COVE
From “Port Bou” on hearing 180, stands a coast stretch with high cliffs. This cove is hondable sand bottom. It is exposed to wind down from the mountain, despite being protected by the North and West winds. Anchor on the shore of the North wind, 200 m from the beach.
GARVET COVE
This is a wonderful and peaceful cove. It has 1 km long and 600 m wide.
Between” Ras” and “Lladró” ends, it is open to Northeast-East and-Southeast winds It offers a good anchor with 11 m water proves on the track line of the island´s highest place in “Puig Gros Raso”.
The place is good to pass the nigh if there are not north or east winds.
The bottom is sand and the bay has no pitfalls. There is a small cove on the south side of “Garbet”, deep but shallow.
It is unsuitable.
To consider:
Be careful to this anchor with the East wind , because the winds picks up the sea and anchoring is dangerous.
To pay particular attention to a dangerous obstacle in the east of this small cove.
PORT DE LLANÇÀ

“Llançà Port” is 15 km from the French border and it is linked to” Figueres” and “port Bou.” It is well protected from sea winds. You can anchor in the breakwater side and in north. It is a shallow sea with many rocks and therefore should be careful.
The bottom is sandy.
Northen “Grifeu” beach, it is better to anchor.
In “ Llançà” and “S´Arenella” section there are abundant slabs.
PORT DE LA SELVA

The “bahía de la Selva”, provides anchor with sand bottom. “Tamarina” beaches, “Fornells” and “Golfet” has a small beach and you can serve it as a refuge.
Leaving “La Selva “with E-SE direction, you can find good anchor in the first bay of the S, end to the “Punta de La Creu”, and it is open to West-North-Northeast winds; you can anchor near the creek with a 20 m sound.
It is an important place to moor the boat.
This bay has sandy bottom, and it is suitable for anchoring .Although it is the most protected place to “Cap de Creus”, it is preferable to use the port facilities when there is north wind.
“Punta de la Creu” in” Port de la Selva” to “Cap de Creus”.
You can find some good anchor. There is a clean anchor in 20 m sounds near the beach. At the bottom anchor several dangerous stones to navigation, so it is advisable to safeguard the distance in a mile
INLET "CAP GROS" GULF
This is a large bay and it has many small anchor (sound in 4 meters center). There are many rocks near the coast, so you should navigate with caution and charts provided large escala. The anchor is in the bay middle and it is protected from all winds except the North wind.
To consider:
Leaving the gulf you must be careful with submerged rocks to 5 m in a shallow water area. It is recommended to move over from the area about a mile.
GALLADERA COVE
This cove consist of three bays to the East, West and South. The most interesting is the one in the West. It is a good covert from the North wind. It is a lonely, isolated and paradisiacal place. It is about 200 m long and 40 wide. The bottom is sand and rocks.
The cove in the East is the smallest and it has little guard although there is enough background to get in.
The cove in the South has so little depth that you can only access with the auxiliary.
GALERA COVE
You can anchor at the cove bottom but it is not an ideal place to spend the night because he has no guard.
PORTALÓ COVE
This cove is completely surrounded by high cliffs. It offers a good guard except the “Tramontana “( North wind).
CULIP COVE
This is the only safe place between “Creus” and “Port de la Selva”.
This is a wide cove, with exotic beauty and it is deep. Its narrow entrance is open to the North, its sound is 2 m and the bottom is rocky.
The passage through the” Encalladora” island is deep but you should not sail with bad weather or even at night.
In cove West there are some small coves and they are great to found in it if the weather is good.
We can see” Cap de Creus “and (“Hell Cave”) near.
The passage between “Cap de Creus” and the Massa d´Or islands ( small island at Creus East) you can easily be realize under normal conditions but there are some rocks near the coast, and winds can be strong, and currents tends to push the boats to “Cap de Creus”.
To consider:
You must avoid two stones in the east.
TAMARINA
It is located 0.6 miles to “Port de la Selva” East. It is a steep place.
FORNELLS
It is just at the east from “Tamarin” to 0,4 miles. It is protected from the West wind.
TABALLERA COVE
This cove has stones bottom, sand and rocks. It is also protected from all winds except the North wind.” Galera “cove, “Fornells” cove, “Cativa” cove and “Tamarina” cove are too suitable for anchoring.
“Taballera “cove has two beaches and sufficient bottom to anchor, but it offers little protection because it is very open to the North.
CAP DE CREUS
In “Cap de Creus” there are many coves to anchor. There are 6 miles from” Port de la Selva “to “Cap de Creus”. The terrain is steep, hilly and jump. Here the Nord wind blows violently.”Cap de Creus “North is dangerous because it is exposed to the Nord wind.
In the”Creus” end´s north coast, the prevailing winds in summer are 70% from North component, (Mistral or Northwest) and (Gregales or Northeast) and 30 % from the South. In this time of the year, winds are stronger at noon, and at night are weak. In this area the North wind can be unexpected and violent, especially in the middle of August.
The strong wind and the sea force, has created in the coast strange shapes, forming great beauty rocks.
South coast´s cape Creus to “Port Lligat” is more protected from the “Tramontana “wind (North wind) but with this wind the stretch between “Port de la Selva “and the end can be conflicting for navigation, so it is advisable to sail far from land.
In the same section you can find a good refuge from the North wind in “Galera “cove,”Talavera “ Prona “and “Culip” cove. But in general you can navigate with confidence.
The section between “Illa Grossa “(Big island) or “S´Encalladora” and the Creus coast´s end it is navigable even in bad weather days. The section called the “Freu de la Claveguera” has enough depth and it is width (70 m). Instead if you do not know the crossing between “Isla Grossa” (Big Islan) and the “Massa d´Oros” islet, it is better to pass out of “Massa d´Oros”, and also if the weather is not good, you should to navigate away from “Massa d´Or”, to prevent the raising sea that is formed near the end.
It should be noted that in the ”Creus” end area it can produce currents of certain intensity, which form a visible swirl in the” Massa d´Or” East.
JUNQUEL COVE OR JONQUET
It is accessible by a passage- like a natural harbor. It is the most prtectec from the coast.
Please note:
Be careful the rocks and the bottom because it can rise quickly.
PRONA COVE
It is one of the most beautiful coves of “Costa Brava” and therefore it is a good place to pass the night anchoring. At the entrance there are 50 m wide and 120 m long. The bay´s bottom is sandy with some rocks. The depth´s entrance is 10 m and 5 m in the center. This cove is protected although its entry is dangerous in North wind days, the West side is the most protected but its depth is low.
GALLADERA COVE
Consist of three bays with East, West and South training. The most interesting cove is the one of the West. It is a good refuge from “Tramontana” (North) wind. It is a remote, lonely and paradisiacal place. It is about 200 m long and 40 m wide. The bottom is sandy and stones. The cove to the Easth is the smallest and it offers little guard but there are enough background to enter. The cove to the South has so little depth that you can only be accessed with auxiliary.
COLOMERA COVE
PORT BOU COVE
FRAGOSA COVE
The walls of this cove are steep.
FREDOSA COVE
This place is in the steep and rugged cliffs from “Vaxell” tip. It is open to the “Garbí”(Southwest)wind.
BONA COVE
“Bona” cove is at 0,8 miles from” Cap de Creus” Southwest. The sound indicates 4 - 5 m water.
GILLOLA COVE
Gillola cove is not exposed to South and Southeast wind, therefore it is a good anchorance place and it is well protected from North wind,which blow strong in this area.
It is recommended to anchor over the sand bottom and seaweeds to 200 m from the coast with 7 m sound. It offers a good protection except East wind. Within “Gillola “cove we can find “Jonquet” cove.
ARQUERIA COVE
At the “Port Lligat” entrance (West) we can find “Arqueria” cove and “Ballesta “cove.
PORT LLIGAT
Port Lligat is one of the best refuge in this coast because the entrance is protected by the “Port Lligat” island. The northern part of this cove has shallow and the bottom is rocky also.
In the southern part there are many slabs.
The red colour of the stones,form a beautiful landscape.
The cove entrance is 200 m wide and it is a good refuge for all winds except Northeast. The best place to anchor is the entrance. The bottom is algae and mud.
Please note:
It is recommended to maintain sufficient distance from” Messina” island and Plana”( about 800 m to the East of Port Lligat island), because it has no beacon light, especially the cove entrance.
Entering by port there is an unidentified rock with 1 m less sound.
In “Port Lligat”the “Pas de les Boquelles” is not navigable.
CADAQUÉS
Navigating to the South, between “Cap de Creus “and “Port Lligat”, the coast is fairly deep and it has excellent coastal coves to anchor. You can anchor in the dock.
Please note:
Should navigate with caution because the weather in this area is very changing and currents are strong.
The area from “Cadaqués” to “Rosas” is mountain. The cliffs offer places like “Cadaqués (beautiful village) or” Monjoi” cove, where you can protect from “Tramontana” (North wind)
CADAQUÉS BAY
This bay is shallow so it is recommended care. The best anchor is on the seafront.
NANS COVE
“Nans” cove is well protected from Southeast wins. It is to the West to “Nans” cove tip and its landscape is rugged. The depth is great 10 to 12 m.
JUNTULLS COVE OR JUNCULL
“Juntulls “cove is 2 miles from “Cadaqués” South. It is located in a high massif. It is protect from East wind. Its depth is 25 to 50. It has enough depth and it is protected to all winds. North side is suitable for anchoring and it has sandy bottom.
This beautiful bay offers places to anchor and diving.
MONJOY COVE
This cove is open to South east and Southwest so when the East wind blows it can be a good alternative to “Juntulls” cove. It offers good anchor to “Tramontana “(North wind).
The bottom is sandy.
Please note:
There are dangerous rocks 200 meters to “Ferrera “end. We recommend anchoring on sand and algae in outgoing sea off the beach and sailing with 12 m prove.
Be care on the Monjoy cove eastern tip , knows as “Punta Ferrera” because there is a dangerous reef half meter sound and it is difficult to see it.
PELOSA COVE
“Pelosa” cove is protected from “Tramontana” (North wind).
Please note:
Be careful on a rock: the “Bijo de la Farrera” who emerge dangerously about 0,60 m water to 250 m South “Farrera” end. The cove is protected from West and East winds.
RUSTELLA COVE
Rustella cove is located in Monjoy cove South. It appears wild, steep and it has clear waters. It is well protected from South wind.
MURTA COVE
It is located at Southwest to” Rustella “cove. It is open to Southeast. The bottom is 3 to 4 m.
CANYELLES COVE
It is located at the” Rosas” coast limit. The sea is usually rough in the northern “Rosas” gulf, despite the high massif´s protection from “Torre del Sastre”mountain.

ROSES PORT

Roses Port is together the fishing port, it is protected from Tramontana( North wind) and it has modern quality services. Panoramic views from “Cadaqués “to “Rosas” are sensational.
Please note:
Navigation towards “Rosas” bay, must be navigated only in normal weather conditions and taking care to some rocks near the coast. Also you must be special care the winds and currents which tend to push the boats towards “Creus” end.
Rosas gulf is excellent for sailing with North winds. Also it has several marine: “Ampuria Brava marine” ( 500 moorings), “Santa Margarida” and “Rosas”.
References for navigation are theRosas and Nans cove´s lighthouse.
You must be careful to the fishponds at half mile to Rosas port West, which are difficult to appreciate until you are very near of them.
SANTA MARGARIDA

Please note:
This port is ideal for boats up to 10 meters.
Difficult access port and it is advisable to approach in it only when the sea is calm. Within the port is protected and it offers 120 moorings for boats until 120 meters.
“Santa Margarida” marine also has a spotlight. You agree to remember there is no light in “Els Brancs” and “Messina” island.
EMPURIA BRAVA
“Empuria Brava”is a town wich has many waterways for navigation.
The” Empurias” are anchorages between “Ampuria Brava” and the “Escala”, which provide some protection because it has 6 miles of coastline and beaches.
On arriving to” Empuria” you can find an anchorage 12 meters depth to 200 m from the coast.
Unfortunately, these coves are not appropriate to pass the night because they are exposed to North, Northeast, East and Southwest winds.
This coast is very flat and it has a very long beach with white sand.
You must navigate at a safe distance opposite the river Muga and Fluvià mouth.
Towards the South, it will be ideal to come to see the beautiful landscape of “Empuries” remains city.
L´ESCALA

L´Escala is located 10 miles from Rosas gulf.
The port is protected by the West.
Please note:
Be careful to the rocks which surround the islet.
From “L´Escala” to” L´Estartit” , the coast is rocky and hih and it has a succession of cliffs. When the wind and sea are first and second quadrants it train undertow near land and this can be dangerous for the boat.
When the sea is calm you can navigate peacefully near the land and you can stopped in many places to scuba diving.
FROM MILÀ TIP TO GUIXERA TIP
There are many anchorages to spend the day, were you can moor the anchor to rocks.
The rocks are steep in some places and there are some islands near it.
MONTGÓ COVE
This cove is rugged and it is protected from Southwest wind and“Tramontana” (North wind). The cove is large, it has some sand anchorages and rocks. One is in front of the new village, the other three are located on the south coast. The cove is open to the East, but you can protected from Northeast and Southeast winds. This cove is completely protected from the rest of the winds.
The wide” Montgó “cove offers goog possibilities for anchoring.
On the Mateua island, (located to Montgó North), the 25 meters bottom contain a large marine fauna, you can even find coral into the sea surface.
FROM “CLOTA” TO “TRENCA BRAÇOS” TIP
In this coast there are many rocks, but there are also a lot of small anchorages where you can to spend the day.
FERRIOLA COVE
This cove is 2 miles from” Montgó” cove and” l´Estartit”. It is a steep cove.
From” Montgó” cove begins an extraordinary landscape of Montgrí cliffs massif, which ends at the” Medas” islands.
There are some low rocks within 100 meters from the coast, so it is necessary to approach it carefully.
FORADADA COVE
“Foradada” cove has 40 meters long and 200 m wide. The rocky bottom is 3 meters. The bottom does not provide a good anchor.
Please note:
It is preferable to pass mooring ground, so the anchor is difficult.
PEDROSA COVE
“Pedrosa” cove is Towards “Pedrosa” North, before arriving Tamariu. It is one of the largest bay in the area. The best place to anchor is the bottom cove, near the main beach, next to the rocks chain just at the beach North.
Please note:
The bottom is rocky. Attention to the rocks chain because it continues under the sea level over 40 meters from last rock above water.
UTRERA CAPE
It is located 4.5 miles from” L´Escala” South.
MEDAS ISLANDS
The park natural of “Medas” islands is about a mile Southeasth. It has a diversity of fauna.
Please note:
On this coast there are many rocks near the coast, so you should navigate with extreme caution and not to approaching to the coast if the sea has waves.
On the day you can land on Southwest side from “Meda Gran”. These islets consist of seven islands and several rocks. The biggest is “Meda Gran”, followed by the “Meda Xica” and the rest are smaller.
Please note:
The passage between the” Meda gran” and the” Meda Xica” is not advisable because there is little depth between the two islands.
L´ESTARTIT

Please note:
Access port is difficult when the “Tramontana” (North) wind blowing. Wind is first and second quadrant: The passage between the “Meda Gran” and “Meda Xica” is not suitable to cross it, only when the sea is calm and shallow-draft boats.
This area consist of two long and wide beaches:” L´Estartit” and” Pals”, which are separated by the “Ter “river mouth. When the wind blows, the sea is very rough, it remove the bottom and form sand banks, so in these conditions it is advisable to sail away from land and watching the draft.
MAGALLOT ISLET
Magallot islet is to the North of “Meda Gran”.
AIGUAFREDA COVE
“Aiguafreda” cove is to the tip “Sal” southern. It offers good protection from North winds and Southwest wind because of the Palomar tip.
It has from 5 to 6 meters water and the bottom is rocky. It is ideal for small ships.
SA TUNA COVE
“Sa Tuna” cove is to the South, it has no rocks and it is a good anchorage. We find the best anchor in front of the” Aixugador”. The bottom is sand and seaweed.
Please note:
This cove does not offer much protection, especially when the North wind blows.
Among “Sa Tuna” and “Aiguafreda” there is an area with many rocks.
BAGUR
“Bagur” is a massif of 100 m. This area is protected from South and North winds.
Please note:
The winds in this area are strong and it cause that the sea is constantly rough.
THE FURIÓ ROCK
This rock is in Canyers end East and it is very dangerous.
Please note:
Be careful at night. The rock extends over 200 m from North to South.
It is advisable to navigate with caution in the face of “Furió del Fitó”( it is a Begur rock near D´es Plom tip) because it is not unmarked and has poor visibility when the sea is rough.
When the North wind blows strong the sea is more moved from Begur cape towards the North.
During the night navigation will be necessary to be particular attention on passing the “Furió del Fitó”. Reference lights are at the Meda Gran lighthouse. The marked are to “Sa Sal” cap North, in front of “Punta Negra”. The red lights of the radio antenna are to “Begur” and Loran from” L´Estartit.”
FORNELLS
Fornells port is located to “Aiguablava” North.
The marina is not suitable for sailing, because the port is very small. This port is protected from Southeast wind.
Please note:
When the wind blows the access to the port can be dangerous.
PINS COVE
The cove´s landscape is high to the Southwest, towards the” Islote Negra”(black islet). The colour of its sand is black and the bottom is rocky.
AIGUABLAVA PORT

AIGUABLAVA COVE
This cove is 200 m long and 150 m wide, the beach is sandy. It is well protected from the southerly winds. The best place to anchor is on the East cove side, under the hostel.
From Pals beach to “Aiguablava”, the route is steep. Excel three well-protected coves from Southwest wind: “Aiguablava”, Sa Tuna and“Sa Riera” ,which you will have to pay attention to “El Bató “rock (in front of the entrance)
GISPERT CAVE
“Gispert” cave is 400 m from islets “Terme” North. There is a large yellow sign on the entrance. The bottom is sandy.
At the cave end there is a small rocks cove.
It is necessary to anchor near the entrance and to enter with the auxiliary.
BISBE CAVE
This place is inaccessible and wild.
LLONGA COVE
“Llonga” cove is long and narrow (200x25 m).
It is well protected from all winds except North and East winds. It has no rocks, only at the end of the beach so you can access without fear.
Please note:
The anchor is difficult because there is a lot of depth (20 m).
AIGUAGELIDA COVE
This cove consist of two bays. The best place to anchor is from the West cove, because there are less rocks.
Please note:
You must be care to the cove because there are many dangerous submerged rocks.
TAMARIU COVE
Tamariu beach is 300 m long and it is very wide. In summer it is always full of anchoring buoys and it offer a good protection from North wind. The beach has from 6 to 8 m water and it is open to the East and South, so it does not give protection from summer winds.
Please note:
All around the cove there are dangerous submerged rocks, so you should stay separate from the rock.
In the first section sailing of this coast you should be careful with “Aigua Gelida Furió”, because it has not mark and has low visibility
To the North there are a series of caves, the most important are “Bisbe” and” Gispert” (This is very visited) because it allows little boats passage.
It is a beautiful show to see the sun rise from inside the cave.
PULXETA AND PEDROSA COVE
This landscape is high and steep. Some rocks offer protection in “San Sebastian“end.
GENS COVE
This is the first cove we found at “San Sebastián” cape North. It offers good protection from northerly winds. You can anchor inside the cove to 5 meters, although it is advisable to pass a mooring overland.
Please note:
On the entrance on the cove with sailing boat , you must to pay particular attention because there are plenty of stones and rocks.
PEDROSA COVE
The rocky island that emerges in front of the stony cove is a good reference point for identification. The cove walls are steep, wild and they are covered with pine trees. It is a quiet place.
SAN SEBASTIÁN END
This place is rocky, steep and it is covered with beautiful vegetation.
LLAFRANC PORT

This is a small port and it has a beautiful beach. The port passage is oriented to the West. The bottom has from 5 to 6 m water.
Please note:
The port offers little protection from East wind. It is necessary to tying up ships because currents are important. The entry can be difficult when winds are strong.
In “Llafranc” area, half a mile, at “Pinell “South, rise “Els Ullastres” seamounts, which is an ideal place for scuba diving.
CALELLA COVE
“Calella” cove is protected from Northeast wind. Its bottom has from 6 to 8 m water.
Please note:
You must be care to the rocky areas.
GOLFET COVE
This cove is to “Cap Roig” North and it offers mooring for 2 or 3 ships.
LAS HORMIGAS (ANTS ISLETS)
These are a group of islets located 2 miles “San Sebastián “Southwest and 700 m “Plana” cape West.
It is surrounded by many emerging rocks from the sea.
Please note:
The most dangerous rocks are located at Southeast.
Between “Calella de Palafrugell “and” Palamós”, are the historic Formigues (ants islands)
The “Streta cove Furió”( at Soutwest )and the” Freu “(between “Formigues “islands and” Planes” cape) has some rocks .If the weather is good you will have not difficult for sailing but if the sea is rough it will be appropriate to move out of them.
CAP PLANS ROCKS
Please note:
You must be careful to Cap Plans rocks because they limit the passage of” Formigues” islands channel, so it is necessary to separate them 200 m in order to avoid them.
FROM PLANA COVES TO REMENDÓN
These coves are located at Plana end South. The rocks protect it from the winds.
Please note:
You must be careful to “El Furió” rock, which emerges near “islas Hormigas”(Ants islands).
The landscape is wild.
CASTELL COVE
This cove is recommended because it provides a good protection from North wind, but it is poorly protected from South winds. The bottom is sand and the best place to anchor is to the cove East, (under “Sa Cobertera “promontory).
Contrast between the coves is different. The landscape in this area is smooth and it has a pine trees beach. Sound indicates less than 5 m.
Castell cove has sandy bottom and it is the best protected from Northeast wind.
S´ALGUER COVE
S´Alguer cove is very beautiful. It consist of three small coves. The depth is 0.5 m.
Please note:
The entrance to the cove is full of dangerous rocks.
You must be careful to rocks bottom. Among “S´Alguer” cove and “Castell “cove emerges a dangerous rock.
FOSCA COVE
The beach is 600 m long and it is fractional into two parts by the Black Rock. (Roca Negra).
The sandy bottom near the beach has very little depth.
Please note:
Fosca Cove is open and it offers very little protection. Be aware of the stranding risk and the rocks to the North side of the beach.
MARINA PALAMÓS

Marina” Palamós” is located three miles to Hants islands (illes Formigues).
Palamós port is one of the biggest commercial port on the “Costa Brava”. It has two ports: one commercial to the North and another one sporting, both of them have good services.
In the Llosa the water is deep and it is reserved for trade vessels.
You must be careful the “Llosa de Palamós” ( 600 m to the South), which is marked out with a danger signal isolation.
It should also move to a safe distance from “Galera” island, in order to prevent the “Llosa del Moli”, which is located at end West and it is marked with a black buoy.
The section between “Torre Valentina” beach (in Sant Antoni de Calonge) and “D´Aro” beach “platja d´Aro” have stones and rocks, for this reason is advisable to approach land only when the sea is calm. Watching the draft you can accessed at the magnificent nooks and coves.
“Sant Sebastià” headlights,” Palamòs”, and “ Formigues” islands have 32 and 18 miles and it provide at night reference points in this area.
NAUTIC COSTA BRAVA

D´ARO BEACH PORT

“Palamós” port is 300 miles from “Palamós”. The port is well equipped and it is well protected from all winds. There are some rocks around "Pinell" end.
Please note:
In d´Aro beach (platja d´Aro) there are some rocks and stones on the bottom, so it is better to stay away from the coast.
SAN POL COVE
Fund of the cove there is a beautiful and long beach and it is protected from all North winds. In the South, in front of the cave, stand high rocks. The North wind can be unpleasant in this area.
Please note:
You must be careful to the small islands of whales (Ballenas) near “Mula”end 200 m from the South.
SANT FELIU DE GUIXOLS PORT

The marina port offers a good service for mooring and it is protected from all winds. It is protected from Southwest winds. Its depth is 8 to 10 m.
Please note:
You should be caution in the port entrance especially when winds come from East and South.
You should be careful in the port entrance where the marks are.
Be careful with a cover rock ( one meter of water) called: “ La Llosa de Port Salvi,” in the island North.
In general, this area can be navigated very quietly, but it is quite open to East and South winds and when the wind blowing strongly you must maintain a distance of land. But if the sea is calm you can sail near to the many beautiful beaches that offers the “Costa Brava”.
For the entrance in “Sant Feliu de Guixols” there is a reference light point white and red at night.
You should be careful the “Port Salvi” rocks (50 m of” Garbi” South) and the Llepant island rocks (40 m South). If the South and Southeast winds blow it occurs undercurrent.
GARBÍ END
If you prefer to pass a quiet night, “Gargí” East is ideal, here the sound indicates from 4 to 5 m water and bottom is rocky.
Please note:
If at night the wind blows there is the possibility to protect in “Sant Feliu” port( 300 m).
Against “Port Salvi” peninsula, at (“Garbí “tip), there are some rocks called “S´Adolix” ( very suitable for diving) and there is enough distance for sailing. Also, d´En Pei cove offers good possibilities for diving.
To the East you can see “Sapa” cave, with it has a large space and it can be only accessed with small boats.
You must be careful until “Penier” cap, and in general throughout the section because there are rocks and stones, as in Vallpresona and Vallpregona beach, where in the center emerges the rock called “Sa Galera”.
CANYET COVE
“Canyet “cove is located at “Sant Feliu de Guíxols” Southwest. The steep massif is 2 miles and it offers a good protection in this area.
FUTADERA COVE
“Futadera” cove is located 1.8 miles. It is in front of “Tossa” cap and next to “Pantiner” end. This cove is open to Northeast wind and it is protected from Southwest winds.
GIVEROLA COVE
“Giverola” cove is separated from Futadera cove and it is oriented towards Southeast. It offers protection from North wind. The bottom are clear: (56 m water beachfront)
At Gibarola Southwest, there is an high and steep hill called” Pico d´Agulla”.
The splendid “Giverola” cove (to” Pentiner” cape west), has a sandy bottom that it allows anchoring ships of any draft.
SANTA POLA AND BONA
Pola cove is located to the West. It is a rocky and steep place.
Bona cove is located 500 m to Soutwest, it is smaller but deeper and it is open to the East. The place is wild.
TOSSA DE MAR
The small bay of Tossa offers a beautiful beach and a good protection from” Tramontana” (North wind)
The passage between Palma tip and the island is navigable when the sea is calm.
Please note:
You should be caution to the cover rock, 2 m just at the island West( at middle distance of the beach).
There is a rock at” Tossa de Mar” Southwest ( next to Cape “Boquera “, formed by Muladera rock) which is unmarked and it is less visible, so you must take care.
When the sea is calm you can navigate between this rock and the land.
For night navigation, “Tossa” lighthouse (2 miles) offers a basic reference in this area.
ES CODOMAR COVE
The small cove” Es Codolar”is located in “Tossa” cap West side and it offers the possibility to mooring for 2 or 3 ships, between a small islet and the “Cap”
PORT OF CANYELLES COVE

The port is located 2.5 miles from “Cap de Tossa” West, (near “Lloret de Mar”)The small port of Canyelles is near a rocky and steep beach.
Please note:
The entry can be difficult because of the rocks. Also you should navigate with extreme caution with the undercurrent produced in the rock walls of the West side of the small “Canyelles” port.
LLORET DE MAR
It is a crowded place in summer. Its great beach is 1.300 m.
The section between “Lloret” and “Blanes” pertains to “Costa Brava” Southern.
“ Sant Francesc “ and “ Santa Cristina” coves are very beautiful and they are suitable for anchoring but it is not recommended to spend the night in them.
In the middle of the sea, appear the” Agulla” rock, which you should be caution.
The rock that stands at the port entrance of Blanes”” deserves special attention.
This area is usually rocky. “Lloret de Mar” and the red tower (next to the “Fenals” tower) are good references for the navigator.
BLANES PORT

This port is an important place for a holiday.It has moorings to pass the night and the prevailing winds are from East and Southwest.
“Sant Joan”castle, in” Blanes” it is a good reference point.
CALELLA
To the” Blanes” South the coast changes radically. River delta of “Tordera” is a long beach which has an intense tourist activity.
The Delta coast is low and it consists of two sandbanks. The sallowness causes that the water easily rise and the seabed are removed in the days when the wind blows from sea to land. When this happens, you should to move away from the delta.
You should also keep a distance near “Malgrat” and “Santa Susana”.
In front of” Malgrat” there are an unmarked remains structure, so you should be care.
Prevailing winds in summer are Southeast, as a breeze. The influence of North wind is not appreciable. In spring it can form sudden fog in Tordera river, which you must be care.
At night, “Calella” lighthouse (with 18 miles) is the best reference on this area.
